Changing ME3's ending = evil wins again

Let me start off by saying I'm not equating the hordes of fanboys that may have initiated a "correction" to Mass Effect 3's ending to evil in this case. While I do consider their ilk, as a whole, to be some sort of internet-bound omega bitc...

Retake Mass Effect is the Kony 2012 of videogames

Apparently, it wasn't enough just to cry a river about the endings to Mass Effect 3. Some of the whiners trying to force BioWare's hand and get a new ending as DLC have decended to new lows by tying their selfishness to a Child's Play fun...

Browser Games: The gods must be crazy

While it was only recently released on Steam, the low-res MMO Realm of the Mad God has been a browser-based experience for far longer, having been around in beta form as far back as two years ago, and in "released" form as of mid-2011. Si...

Now is the winter of on-disc content

The recent kerfluffle over the discovery of locked-away content on the Xbox 360 version of Street Fighter X Tekken has re-animated the debate over how far is too far when it comes to on-disc DLC. Previously called into question by games l...

Promotions: The bees are all right

The late 1990s and early 2000s, some of the earliest alternate reality games, or ARGs, would seep their way into small segments of public awareness. Sort of a blend of geocaching, viral marketing, social networking, and interactive stories,...

GameStop jammed it in the wrong hole (Calibur V)

Chances are, I'm not the only person here who preordered Soul Calibur V from GameStop, thereby getting screwed out of the Dampierre DLC code in favor of some goofy chunk of plastic done up to look like Ivy Valentine. I thought they were giv...

I hate it when my Schwartz (and my Metal) gets Twisted

After some waiting, a copy of the recent PS3 overhaul of Twisted Metal managed to stay in a Redbox long enough for me to rent it. I've no real nostalgia or anything in regards to the franchise, as I never got into any of the older titles ...

Endings: We're gonna need a montage!

Back in the eight-bit days, you were lucky to get more than a splash screen and "CONGRATURATION" after investing however many hours in memorizing enemy attack patterns and the proper jumping techniques needed to finish an entire game. The...

A sermon for your Ash Wednesday.

Today, we gather to honor the beginning of a forty-day quest, in which Professor Oak gave his finest pupil to the world so all the Pokmon may be caught, in all the regions across every land. Over the course of his journey to defeat the J...

Improvement: Fixing cracks in the stage of history.

Let me start by saying that I'm as thrilled as ever that SoulCalibur V came out. I bought it day one, and I'm in love with the game as much as I have been with all of the series' prior installments. The overhaul given to the multiplayer a...

What I want in 2012: Everything I wanted in 2011

There are plenty of great games waiting for release this year, and more than a few of them have crossed my radar, but I'm actually more interested in where some of last year's new releases are bound over the course of 2012. Three games in p...

Resolutions: Quad Damage

There're a few projects I've been mulling over or putting off in regards to gaming for a while now, completely separate from the massive backlog that's been building up for years. Given that the world may very well end next December, if a...

Giving: The gift that kept on doing so.

I've touched upon this tale before to varying extents, but here's the full rundown on the Christmas that got me into gaming, and/or how my parents ruined me for life. As far back as I can remember, I was regularly exposed to games to var...

MAGfest: The (don't be an) idiot's guide.

I may've only been to one MAGfest out of what's soon to be ten, but there's a lot of convention (and common) sense that can be applied to the Music And Games Festival. Most of this advice is geared towards first-timers, but perhaps even s...

Old Installations, new sensations.

Now that I've had a few weeks to fully digest 343 Industries' revisitation of gamers' original assault on the Covenant, I figure it's high time I shared my impressions of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. There are some potential, albeit ...

Xenophilia: Pop pop, shoo wop.

Despite having been around since 1997, Konami's "Bemani" series of rhythm games has only made limited penetration in markets outside Japan. Sure, everyone knows about Dance Dance Revolution to varying extents, Beatmania IIDX saw a North Ame...

Tales from Skyrim: Fallin' down Browntown

Prior to Skyrim, my exposure to Bethesda games had been fairly minimal. The time investment needed to plunge deep into any of the prior Elder Scrolls games, or Fallout 3 or New Vegas, is something that'd eluded me up until a few weeks ago...

Thanksgiving: Texture-mapping the peace pipe.

Rather than trying to crank out one in a crowd of great posts for this week's theme about actually being thankful for something, I thought I'd play with some of the imagery at the core of the holiday. I had this fantastic idea to discuss vi...

Zelda Week: I guess this is growing up.

The Legend Of Zelda series, despite its legacy and considerable fanbase, seems to have developed two primary camps of decriers as the years have rolled on and the series has continued. There are those out there who would have you believe th...

Acquisition: A black Kangaskhan day.

My tale of acquisition is less about getting my hands on a game as it is obtaining an in-game element, but it was a quest enough in and of itself. It was November of 1998, and I was far more into Pokmon than was likely healthy for a 16 ...

Space Marine, now in Extreme Nachos flavor

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine's free Exterminatus mode hit two weeks ago, but given that I have the game on 360 and there were some issues, I had to wait an extra week to roll around in it myself. That being said, it was totally worth the w...

MMO Stories: Thank heaven for little girls.

It's been a long, long time since I played World Of Warcraft. After two brief bouts of getting a character or two to levels in the mid-thirties, I manage to break my addiction. Even membership (and friendship with some of the higher-ups) in...

There Would've Been Brawl: It's Not Easy Being Green

Turns out my estimates were correct, and Matthew Mercer, the man who was king of the Gerudo (and Kirby, and Meta Knight, for that matter) in There Will Be Brawl, was busy as all get-out over the past few weeks. But in the end, answers comet...

About nekobunone of us since 5:17 PM on 06.29.2007

Hi, I'm Chris, though I've been going by nekobun and variants thereof for so long, I kind of answer to both anymore.

While I've kind of got my own thing going in the realm of indie coverage, at least in the form of playing through (and streaming) (and writing about) the huge backlog I'm developing of games gleaned from various indie bundles, I try to keep my more mainstream, game-related features here, as well as opinion pieces on the industry at large, out of mad love for the 'toid. When I'm not rambling here or trying to be clever in comments threads, you can catch me rambling on Facebook and my Twitter, and trying to be clever in the Dtoid.tv chat.
