Regarding E3: Naia's Adventure at E3, Day 2

Hello Robot friends! Day 2 started a little sooner than day 1 since there were no conferences. Since I spent yesterday in the West Hall, I spent today in the South Hall. It was busy, and almost as packed in the convention center as yeste...

Regarding E3: Naia's Adventure at E3, Day 1

E3 has been filled with some interesting news so far. I spent a good deal of my first day staring off into space with a "dear in the headlights" face. i devoted the day to one of the halls and tried to play as many games as I could, whil...

Quick Blog: E3 vs. Naia-the-gamer

Hi robot friends! As people are learning about the new surprises up Microsoft's sleeve, I'm at the LA Convention center. Someone thinks I'm enough of a part of the industry to qualify for an industry pass so I'm infiltrating the center. ...

Nintendo DSi hands-on

The DSi is launching this weekend. It looks nice, and Nintendo knows how to sell a portable. In fact, I don't go anywhere without my DS. I wasn't sure what to think of the DSi, especially given the $170 price tag, but Nintendo invited me...

Happy Birthday Mr. Robot!

I haven't been able to post in a while, as I've been busy with work and making life altering choices on my career recently. However, that doesn't mean I can't take time out to wish this community and Niero a happy birthday. So thank you...

10 things Naia shares on the internet [NVGR]

I got peer-pressured by the other students to share with the class, so here goes: 1. I’ve always been into computers. My Dad brought home our first computer when I was three and apparently my parents said I thanked my Dad for “buying me...

Tyra Tuesday: Redefining Adorable [NVGR]

I woke up tired and sad thinking I lost my keys, but then I realized it was Tyra Tuesday. Magically Tyra found my keys and I was happy. To thank her I want to show everyone how adorable she is: Even evil Tyra-head is adorable Thank...

http://gamerscoreblog.com/team/archive/2008/08/04/560402.aspx Microsoft decided that it will test the consumers to see how much money they will be willing to pony up by announcing Braid will indeed cost 1200 MS points (that's $15 in real p...

Awesomely Underrated: E3 Edition

I’ve decided to bring back the Awesomely Underrated, but this time the rules are slightly different. This time I want to talk about games that caught my eye from all the E3 coverage that may not have received the attention they deserved....

Voice Acting in Video Games

Voice acting has become a standard in video games. Much like the evolution from silence to talkies in film, we see the same jump in video games. We no longer need to read words on the screen. We can hear it, assimilate it, and enjoy it l...

New RPG for the "DO WANT" pile: Avalon Code

I found this news interesting on RPGLand, a site that is slowly becoming one of my new favorite places to get RPG news. Both this place and IGN have announced a new game for the DS, Avalon Code. Why would one care about this game? Bec...

Examining the Many Layers of Rydia

(The above picture is strangely fitting) I was on the bus yesterday talking with Zero, about the evolution of character development in video games over the years. The topic of Final Fantasy IV was brought up in discussion. I know, surpr...

The sad state of JRPG's in the US

(I'll try not to fangirl all over this rant. I promise. This is also not meant to sound eloquent. This is a rant after-all.) Something has been bugging me a lot in the last few months. In fact this has bugged me ever since Blue Drago...

About naia-the-gamerone of us since 1:51 PM on 09.13.2007

My name is Naia (pronounced either Nay-a or Neye-a, like yay or like eye). I've been poking around here for a while, although I don't comment as much as I used to. I do the music and the sound stuff. Teach and do scholarly research too! I do mostly freelance work and I'm always looking for people (even on DToid) to do fun projects with in entertainment. That can be either in theater, film, TV, or video games. I want to be like Kermit the Frog and be part of a group that entertains and makes people happy. I also love blue slimes, puppies and Sprinkles Cupcakes.

I've been playing computer and video games all my life. My dad was a programmer so we got an IBM 5150 PC very early on in the 80's. For Christmas in 1989 my parents surprised me with a Nintendo and it's been downhill ever since. I have/had most consoles over the years, mainly from Sony or Nintendo. I've had some Sega consoles and an Xbox 360 too.

I'm a big fan of the JRPG trinity of Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Fire Emblem (more DQ and FE lately, but I didn't hate FFXV). I was a finalist in Nintendo's DQ6 trivia contest back in 2011. I play RPGs, Action/Adventure, Platformers, Puzzles, and Point-n-Click Adventure games. I will play fighters and shooters, but they have to be the right kind of game.

Also, Rydia is my hero.

I'm such a nerd, I like to keep track of all the games I've completed in an excel file (it's over 400). Now that my backlog is out of control I have a word document for that too. My goal is to for once and for all eliminate the backlog, or at least keep it to a number in the single digits.

I have a lot of things to say about the game industry, it's something I care deeply about and love giving my opinions. I like to rant about shit. I'm here just to share what I have to say, in hopes someone is willing to listen.

Also for the record, my Top 5 Games of All Time
1. Chrono Trigger
2. Final Fantasy 4
3. Super Mario 3
4. Dragon Quest 11
5. Phantasy Star 4

Yes, I love my retro games (and DQ 11)
