LONG BLOG

Dephoenix's (Pointless) E3 2017 Wishlist - Square Enix

   0

Important Note: Upon investigation (google search) Square Enix apparently does not have a conference this year. I had not realized this when I had originally chosen to write a blog for Square. Considering I already published my miscellaneous blog, and I do have quite a few games for this Square blog, I'm still going to throw this one up anyway.

Square Enix

E3 will finally be here THIS WEEK! The anticipation is palpable. Yet again I've assembled a list of games I'd like to see get announced or just see more of. This time it's for Square Enix, the first name that springs to mind when I hear "RPG". But they have evolved into more than that. Though I still pretty much only put RPG games and spin offs on this list.

Dragon Quest Builders

Dragon Quest Builders 2 - Dragon Quest Builders was close to my GOTY for 2016. So I'd really like a sequel, if only to improve on its already solid foundation. And if the rumors that a Vita successor is being planned, hopefully that could mean a more deep and content-rich portable experience.

Final Fantasy Builders

Final Fantasy Builders - I mean, why not? It worked for Dragon Quest. Final Fantasy is a very popular franchise with just as much, if not more, iconic and memorable locations and items. I'm sure there are lots of people like me that would gobble up a Final Fantasy Builders game. It would be cool to be able to build your own FF town. I'm not sure how the story would work, but I would love to see what they could come up with.

FF Musou

Final Fantasy Musou - Once again, if it works for Dragon Quest, why not also do it with Final Fantasy? I'm sure any Final Fantasy/Dynasty Warriors fans would love to finally see this happen. Getting to hack and slash it out with FF's iconic heroes and villains in memorable locales. Getting to use summons to help take down hordes of foes. A Final Fantasy Musou is long overdue, especially since Square Enix has already dipped their toes into the pool with Dragon Quest Heroes.

Tomb Raider

New Tomb Raider - I actually haven't dived into the new Tomb Raider games yet. But they've both received lots of praise and I love the Uncharted series (which I've heard it resembles). So a new entry would be pretty exciting to hear is coming.

Parasite Eve

Parasite Eve Remake - I played Parasite Eve for the first time a couple of years ago. It had aged surprisingly well gameplay-wise and I really enjoyed it. I do feel like it could use some more polish, especially with the controls, and nicer graphics would be nice too. But let me be clear, I don't want a reboot. I want a remake. Same story, same gameplay style, more or less the same game. I'd take a little more stuff to do, and some refinement, but I don't want them overhauling the game from the ground up. Or turning it into the 3rd Birthday. (shudder)

Chrono Trigger

New Chrono Game - It's been a long time since Square made a Chrono game. I know a lot of people want a new one. My only two caveats hear are: 1) Not a direct sequel to Trigger, that story is told, and more than satisfactory on its own and 2) I want the gameplay to be more like Trigger than the Cross or Break. This one's a long shot, but I'd be very pleased to see it happen.

Theathrhythm DQ

Theatrhythm Dragon Quest Localization - Last time I heard, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy did pretty well in North America and so was Dragon Quest. So come on Square, bring this over already! I can't be the only person that wants this right?

Now onto already confirmed games I'd like to see more of:

FFVII Remake

Final Fantasy VII Remake - With the news that this game likely won't be out until 2020, I'm not going to hold my breath. However, it would still be nice to get some sort of preview to let us know how it's shaping up. At least let us know if "Episode 1" is going to take 3 years, or the full remake.

Dragon Quest XI

Dragon Quest XI - There's been some confusion surrounding this game. When it's coming out, what platforms it's coming to. Some confirmation would be nice as well as some more details. From what little I've seen it looks nice, but I would like to see some more.

FFXV

Final Fantasy XV Complete Edition - I would like to dive into FFXV, but with all the expansion DLC and such, I've been waiting. I'd gladly scoop up a complete version with all the DLC included. Otherwise I suppose I'll wait until the game is super cheap and I can then get the DLC I want without paying a crap ton of money.

With Square Enix you never know what to expect at E3. It can either be very exciting, or very disappointing. I'm hoping for the former. Especially since, despite some issues, they have been getting better recently. I guess we'll find out this weekend. My next E3 Wishlist, which will also be the last, shall be Nintendo. And I'm sure that that will in no way blow up in my face.

Super Mario Bros. 3 was the very first game (I remember) playing. Since then I have been a big fan of the medium.

I'm an avid gamer and aspiring writer. RPGs and platformers are my bread and butter, but I'm also a fair action/adventure guy too. Really there are no genres I outright dislike, just individual games. Every game genre offers something different, and I've come to love the variety. I feel the same way with comics, movies, manga, etc. Not really hung up on "genres", I just like what I like, and I don't care what genre it is.

Recently I've been trying to "break out of my shell" by getting out of my comfort zone and trying things I normally would not. Because of this I have discovered lots of new games, books, manga, shows, and movies that I now love. I do my part now to try to help others expand their horizons and get out of their own familiar space and try new things.

Destructoid has been a big help in getting me to broaden my horizons, and interact with more people outside my familiar circle of friends and acquaintances. I've come to love this site, and look forward to sharing more with you knuckleheads.
