A small post of even smaller posts
A distinctive part of the Yoko Taro-verse is the four-part short stories attached to collectible weaponry. Drakengard, NieR, and SinoAlice alike all have this concept. It's a small touch, but it's a part I've always enjoyed. It pushed me to upgrade weapons I had no intention of using if only to learn more about these tiny tiny adventures!
Now that I've beaten the NieR remake, I've sketched down some ideas for weapon stories of my own. It's a quicker blog than my usual, but it was still fun to do! If you're intrigued, why not come up with a few too in the comments? Their structure varies from story to story, so don't worry too much about fitting a specific mold. Just make some short stories that can be divided neatly into four!
Painted Plank (1H)
1: There was once an extremely handsome artist. As strangers never failed to comment on his appearance, he began to fear that it would overshadow his work.
2: He crafted a crude mask out of pure rosewood. He decided he would only appear in public wearing it, that the work would finally speak for itself.
3: Any fears of being unable to grab the populace's attention quickly subsided. If anything, his popularity reached new heights.
4: While his works were forgotten by time, the tale of an eccentric masked traveler left its mark on history.
Melpomene and Thalia (2H)
1: When I look back at the time we shared, my heart swells with conflicting emotions. Try as I might, I cannot find the right words to describe them. In the lack of a better name, then, I've begun to call them my tragedies.
2: I'll never forget the time when we first met. It was probably not all that important to you, but on that day, having someone to help me and listen to me meant the world. I... I wonder. Were you the same way? Because if so, and if I never gave you your chance to talk... But I was just a kid, I suppose. And that was my first tragedy.
3: As I grew up, the world around us kept changing for the worse. It's a wonder I got to reach the present day in one peace. Thinking about everyone who had to survive on this planet without someone like you at their side... It feels unfair. And that, I guess, is my second tragedy.
4: The sun shines on a new day, as peace has finally started to return. Buildings are starting to rise again. Faces are, little by little, lit by emotions we thought were long gone. And this kid I found, Jerome... Well, we're getting along really well. Every day feels a little better than the one before, it's true. But... You've left this world at its lowest, and I will never get a chance to share these wonders with you. That's my third tragedy.
Fool's Full Funnel (Lance)
1: This new community I found online is really cool! Some of the members are a bit out there, but it just feels so liberating to be part of a like-minded group. To finally be able to speak my mind, without anyone judging. Sure, they have a nasty reputation, but that doesn't matter. As long as we've got each other's trust, we'll be alright.
2: Yeah, the community's still nicer than most places. Even though the new members are way too soft. And we keep losing the OGs that made this place what it is. Of the real crew, there's only me and you left, Mark. We're the only ones we can trust.
3: The community kicked me out yesterday. Even Mark, who I really believed in, stopped replying to my messages! Honestly, I was going to quit that place anyway. Couldn't say anything anymore without someone getting on your case. Can't trust anybody but yourself, eh?

Arachnid Web (2H)
1: "I'm so tired of these targeted ads! Every web page I visit, it's the same thing. Ads for dating websites everywhere I go! My family doesn't need to know I've been on the hunt! I'll never hear the end of this..."
2: "I'm so tired of these targeted ads! Feels like on every website I go to, I get assaulted with flowers. Flowers, flowers, flowers! Is everyone going to think I've turned into some sort of botanist now?"
3: "I'm so tired of these targeted ads! Lately, all I see are guns. Shotguns, handguns, rifles... I've already made my purchase, what more do they want out of me? I bet my boss would bury me with questions if he saw this..."
4: "I'm so tired of these targeted ads! Now they're started showing me discount shovels all the time! That's it, I'm installing an ad blocker. Can't let anyone find out..."
The Wallet (1H)
1: No no no, you got it all wrong. It's not a pyramid scheme, it's the biggest money transfer in history!
2: Well yeah, if it gets more popular I'm going to make money... But I'm going to make money either way because this tech is the future! To the moon!
3: See, the idea is that it's basically this gigantic database that everybody hosts simultaneously right? And it's got a really cool name. Man, I love technology.
4: What's that? Where is the money coming from? Why, from rich people, of course! Yeah, the same ones who aren't participating. So, how much are you buying?
Destiny's Embrace (1H)
1: The child was raised to be a hero for the eventual end times. There were many like her, trained in combat and wit.
2: When the time came, however, the harsh reality of the battlefield proved too much for them. Despite living their entire lives for this moment, it would prove to be their end.
3: But weeks after the child drew her last breath, a nameless survivor found a way to turn back time and prevent the conflict at the source.
4: In the new world, the child yet lives. Unaware of the grim outcome that would have awaited them, she and the others still dream of shining on the battlefield that has been robbed from them.
