Shog's July 2021 Gaming Journal, only not

I moved this past month, and since things have been in a general state of upheaval I haven’t really prepared this month’s games journal. I’ve played games, I just didn’t follow through with my usual documentatio...

Band of Bloggers August 2021 Theme

Whether you love them or hate them I think we can all agree on these two aspects of games journalism; Review scores are awful, and review scores are very difficult to ignore. For this month’s Band of Bloggers prompt I’m goi...

Shog's June 2021 Gaming Journal

I’ve played a bunch of demos this month, but not nearly as many as some of you. Maybe it’s just a “me” thing, but a lot of what I saw didn’t really jump out at me. Looking at my list, it seems like I playe...

Shog's May 2021 Gaming Journal

Remember, remember, when May turns into June and once again rumors of a Switch Pro have begun to circulate again. For goodness sake, people have been spreading rumors about a Switch Pro since mid-2017. Anyway, there were some pretty bi...

Band of Bloggers June 2021 Prompt!

It's summer time, and you know what that means, it's time to go down to the beach, it's time to do some beachy things. Even if it's too early in the season for you to go though, you're going to want to consider your wardrobe as the wea...

BOB ... Gosh, this is awkward

I don't usually play around with photo mode in the games that offer them. In fact, I'm struggling to think of games recently that had a photo mode in general. There was the demo for Resident Evil VIII but the issue with that is that th...

Shog's April 2021 Gaming Journal #BOB

Good news, the joke month is over and done with. Bad news, it felt like the last 4 weeks passed by at an accelerated rate. When I wasn’t gaming or working this month, I’ve spent more time outside walking about and trying to...

Shog's March 2021 Gaming Journal

Man, I’ve been...I don’t even know. March was a really damn weird month for me. I’ve been busy with a lot of different things, I’ve been re-evaluating a few things, I’ve neglected a few things…I sti...

Band of Bloggers April 2021 Theme

Happy April Fools Day everybody! I hope you've been enjoying Waluigi Day as much as I have! One of my favorite things about modern April Fools Day celebrations is just how many of these jokes turned out to be. It really subverted my ex...

Shog's Birth-month 2021 Gaming Journal

Recently, I found and started listening to audiobooks of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Unfortunately, the LotR audiobooks were taken off of youtube and maybe I should just subscribe to spotify, but I don’t like commitment...

Shog's January 2021 Gaming Journal

January has been a surprisingly good month for me. Or maybe I’m just having a really good week, I’m not sure, but what I do know is that I’m in a very good mood. I’m not sure where this optimism and happiness ca...

BoB - Shog talks about SMT again

So far this month I haven’t played many games that feature parties. I’ve spent a lot of the month playing through Disco Elysium and I guess there’s an argument to be made that the player character and his brain could ...

Band of Bloggers January 2021 Prompt!

Welcome to 2021, and if nobody’s told you to do so yet you might want to get a glass or jar or gallon of water to help out with that hangover. Nobody really remembers the hangovers or indigestion though, especially if you’v...

Shog's December 2020 Gaming Journal

December has come and gone, and there are a lot of things I really wish I could have done this month. I didn’t see any of my relatives or friends during the holidays because I’ve been LARPing that one episode of Invader Zim...

BoB - Finished Shoggness 4 Golden

Unfinished business, what a joke! If my backlog were made of wood it could easily be the literal ton’s worth of dead pine. Well not dead since I do plan on going back and finishing the vast majority of what I’ve started. Ya...

A Decade in Review; Shog's Top-Something List

This is it: the culmination of 11 lengthy, semi-meandering blogs filled with nuclear takes, bandwagon-following, and bizarre accolades. I want to say this final entry will be free of hot-takes, but even positivity and praise can raise ...

Shog's November 2020 Gaming Journal

Behold the month of the Friday which is blacker than the blackest, black. This is prime-time for picking up recent games, especially this year since it seems like all of the games dealers are hosting sales. Then again it’s often ...

BoB - Let's Genoshog Dark Souls 2!

Emergent gaming has been around for a very, very long time. The concept of getting a perfect score or beating a game as quickly as possible are examples of emergent gameplay types. For this month’s band of bloggers prompt, I had ...

A Decade in Review; Shoggy Runoff

What started out as a way to stall for time as I desperately tried to assemble a “games of 2019” list has turned into a year long project made up of a dozen blogs about the games launched over the past decade and what I tho...

Band of Bloggers November 2020 Prompt!

The month of November isn’t a particularly exciting one, unless you happen to have a birthday in it. Maybe that’s why November is the subject of a very specific type of challenge that I don’t think I need to name-drop...

Shog's Halloween 2020 Gaming Journal

October is usually the best month of the year, and while this has been a really good month for me, there are little factors that kept it from being as good as it could have been. It’s basically November now, and yet my area is st...

BoB - Shog Gets Dark

This month's Band of Bloggers prompt is all about darkness. It's the spooky month after all, and what's spookier than darkness? This topic lends itself to all kinds of thoughts and discussions on how games have used darkness and light....

A Decade in Review; Shoggy-19

It’s the end of a decade and maybe it’s just me but 2019 just seemed to be really, really lackluster compared to the rest of the decade. That shouldn’t seem possible since this was the year Nintendo launched its first...

Shog's September 2020 Gaming Journal

I just realized that I’ve played a few games in this, the month of September, that I probably should have waited to play until the spooky month. It’s fine though, because any month can be spooky if you try hard enough, espe...

A Decade in Review; Shoggy-18

2018 happened, and I think this is my most anemic list so far. I’ve tried to keep up with modern games, but it’s easy to lose track of everything as it comes out. That being said though, I think I managed to put together a ...

BOB - A Delayed Game is eventually Shogged

Shigeru Miyamoto once said, “A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever”. You may have noticed a delay in this month’s Band of Bloggers prompt, and that was totally to drive this point home. We&rsquo...

Shog's August 2020 Gaming Journal

This month has been...meh. I’m getting tired of blaming seasonal depression for my feelings of ennui, especially during Summer, so I’m going to start blaming people who eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Anyway, I chos...

BoB - Grand Theft Auto IV & Shog Andreas

Something I love about video games is that when one does well, it usually means that a sequel will happen sooner or later, and unlike movie sequels video game sequels usually add new stuff with each new game. Knights of the Old Republi...

A Decade in Review; Shoggy-17 (Part 2)

Continued from Part 1, where all of the negativity of 2017 lives.    Good   Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ Blaster Master Zero Cuphead Hollow Knight The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 Me...

About Shoggoth2588one of us since 6:55 AM on 06.03.2013

Hello all! I'm Joe, from Maryland! I released five days before Enix launched Dragon Quest 3! I started playing games around the time I was 3, with some very early memories of myself playing Duck Hunt in my Dad's office and Golden Axe in an arcade at what might have been an airport (It was a weird memory). I'm mostly harmless so if you wanna talk to me, send me a message. I'll be around, making horrible puns though not quite as horrible as Gus' is able to do. I'll lurk on the Discord too and if you want to be my friend there, than come at me!
