A Decade in Review; Shoggy-17 (Part 1)

2017 was a huge year for gaming. Nintendo launched the Switch in March and instantly made all of the money in the world by having done so. I also had to move across state lines for personal reasons, but I was in a good enough pl...

Shog's July 2020 Gaming Journal

It’s a miserably hot time of year, and even if it wasn’t in my best interest to do so I wouldn’t be leaving the house. I do want to simulate the feeling of being able to walk around outside without spontaneously combu...

Band of Bloggers August 2020 Theme

August is a lot like July in that it’s miserably hot, and I’m miserable, but I understand that people can enjoy that kind of misery. Unlike July though, August doesn’t have a holiday so the one thing that makes July s...

BoB - Shog of the Old Republic

This month’s Band of Bloggers prompt is all about water levels, and while I’ve played through a lot of them the issue I've found is that very many of them are really, really, not good. Aesthetically I really like water leve...

A Decade in Review; Shoggy-16 (Part 2)

(continued from Part 1)   Good: Pony Island Rusty Lake Roots Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE   Pony Island is a cute, simple runner-type game, where you guide a little pony through 2D levels, jumping over...

A Decade in Review; Shoggy-16 (Part 1)

2016 was a much better year than I remember it being. There were a handful of big games launched that absolutely killed it, a couple that I would rather not think about again, and some that definitely exist. Even though this was the la...

Shog's June 2020 Gaming Journal

June is here, and June means Steam Summer Sale! In addition to the sale Steam has also hosted a ton of demos for upcoming games. My list this month is lengthier than usual, but it’s made up of a lot of these demos and games that ...

Shog Gushes about the Coromon Demo

Out of all of the demos I played this month, Coromon is the one that I’m most looking forward to. I’ve played the demo for nearly 9 hours which is more time than I’ve dedicated to many full games. With the Coromon dem...

BoB - Death Shogging 40K

I really dislike games by Hideo Kojima. That is to say I don’t like playing games by Hideo Kojima, but I like playing with games by Hideo Kojima. Metal Gear Solid is my favorite game of his (at least until I can play an English l...

A Decade in Review; Shoggy-15 (Part 2)

Thanks for checking in! If you missed the first half of my 2015 in review blog, I'll be providing a link to it in the comments. This one is all positivity, and a little bit of blah so prepare yourself for my sunniness! Meh   Yosh...

A Decade in Review; Shoggy-15 (Part 1)

It’s 2015, and for some reason current gen games are still coming out on last generation hardware. Part of why I only early-adopted the Nintendo console was because I was waiting for must-buy games to launch on the Playstation 4 ...

Shog's May 2020 Gaming Journal

May was a strange month, wasn’t it? Between the sudden cold snap followed abruptly by intense heat, the back to back protests with wildly different outcomes, the out-of-nowhere reveals of a new Paper Mario that actually looks dec...

BoB - Shog played Jazz Jackrabbit 3

If you know me well enough, or if you’ve known me for long enough, you’ve likely heard me say something along the lines of, "Extreme Pinball is by far the best game Epic has ever released.” Then I played the alpha dem...

A Decade in Review; Shoggy-14 (Part 2)

Welcome back to A Decade in Review; Shoggy-14! This is the second half of my look at 2014, and it's all positive. If you're interested in reading up on the games I didn't like, and felt ambivelent about, check out my previous entry. It...

A Decade in Review; Shoggy-14 (Part 1)

2014 happened, and while it’s true that the Playstation 4 and Xbone have been out for a while it really doesn’t feel like the new console generation has kicked off yet. There were some pretty high-profile games launched on ...

Shog's April 2020 Gaming Journal

As 2020 continues on so too does the global game of plague inc. we’re all being forced to play. Since we’re well and truly into Spring sales are starting to roll out online so my backlog has grown, and will continue to grow...

BoB - Shog-N-G

Ah, to be the fool during the month of April, and depending on which games you’ve played there’s high likelihood that you’ve been made the fool once or twice. A part of me wants to spend several paragraphs just talkin...

A Decade in Review; Shoggy-13 (Part 2)

The Bad and Meh lists are covered in Part 1, posted previously, as is a sizeable chunk of the Good list. I'm can't say I'm surprised that this happened, but I'm a little bit proud to see that I've found and smacked against the upper li...

A Decade in Review; Shoggy-13 (Part 1)

The year 2013 was a massive one in gaming! The legendarily successful Ouya launched and it was such a massive hit that it was discontinued indefinitely just to give Sony and Microsoft a chance with their own new consoles the Playstatio...

Shog's SMarch 2020 Gaming Journal

So how’s your March going? I don’t want to make light of what’s going on in the world, and when I say that what I mean is that I use comedy to cope and I hope you don’t take offense when I do inevitably make fun...

BoB - Shog likes Jetpacks

Video games are fun, unless they’re not, but for the most part video games are fun! This month’s Band of Bloggers prompt is all about those parts of video games that don’t really make logical sense but which are fun f...

A Decade in Review; Shoggy-12

Remember that time the world ended, because Nostradamus and his Mayan friends said it would? That was a pretty wild time but since we live in the timeline with Duke Nukem Forever, we never got to experience that apocalypse. My memories...

Shog's Birthday-Month 2020 Gaming Journal

Happy belated Leap Year! I seem to forget that February is such a short month every year, but even though I got a late start to my monthly blog, I had plenty of time in February to play a ton of games! I even beat a lot more games than...

BoB - Final Fantasy Shogverted my Expectations

I may have mentioned this a few times before, but I’ve been playing Final Fantasy games since I was very young. My first RPG in general was Mystic Quest, I went from that to Final Fantasy Adventure on the Gameboy, Final Fantasy I...

A Decade in Review; Shoggy-11

2011 was a really weird time for me, I was living at home with my Mom and siblings, trying to build up enough money to move down south to make a long-distance relationship into a not-at-all long distance relationship. I made it happen ...

Shog's January 2020 Gaming Journal

It’s a whole new year, a whole new decade, MY BIRTHDAY, and 2 Steam sales affected what games I played this month...and realistically, next month too, and the months following that. Anyway, I hope you’ve all had a good New ...

Band of Bloggers February 2020 Theme

It’s the first February of the new year, and even a new decade, but you already knew that if you have access to a calendar or spend time looking at your phones home screen. If you're expecting more of a preamble from me than toug...

A Decade in Review; Shoggy-10

I had this fun idea to do a series of blogs about games from the past decade, one entry per month about one year from 2010 until 2019, where I would talk about either my top and bottom 3 or my top and bottom 5 depending on how many tit...

About Shoggoth2588one of us since 6:55 AM on 06.03.2013

Hello all! I'm Joe, from Maryland! I released five days before Enix launched Dragon Quest 3! I started playing games around the time I was 3, with some very early memories of myself playing Duck Hunt in my Dad's office and Golden Axe in an arcade at what might have been an airport (It was a weird memory). I'm mostly harmless so if you wanna talk to me, send me a message. I'll be around, making horrible puns though not quite as horrible as Gus' is able to do. I'll lurk on the Discord too and if you want to be my friend there, than come at me!
