Phils Game/Pop Music Similarities #270 - Steamboat Raggie

Featuring Mickey Mania and Ragtime.

Greetings fellow game music lovers,

some people might have noticed that I heard a lot of old music lately. Consequently, the time has come to show off something from it. And what would be best suited than a game from a franchise that really breathes the Gilded Age esthetics: Mickey Mania from 1994 which is somewhat of an anthology of early Mickey Mouse movies. The soundtrack is full of puns to early 20th century ragtime and jazz and one particular sequence is the base for todays entry. From the level corresponding to the earliest Mickey Mouse cartoon - Steamboat Willie - comes this one:

There are several old ragtime songs that have sequences comparable to the one above. Some examples:

William J. Braun - "Cotton Pickers Rag" (1899):

Thurland Chattaway - "Foolish William" (1899):

Another one that has the general feel of the Mickey Mania song:

Griffith Jones - "Uncle Remus" (1905):
