you can't imagine how long I waited until I could use that title :) . Anyways, the nature of Kondos musical tastes pretty much mandates that every second caribbean entry is either a Mario or Zelda game. And today, it's Mario time again! With Super Mario World (1990) for Super Nintendo. We already had the title and the general main theme. But not overworld theme, right? Let's start with the very first overworld theme: The one on Yoshis Island:
While I had trouble finding an exact match (in particular, with the first three notes), I'm pretty convinced the song is rooted in Cuban music. Some examples:
