Call of Cthulhu and the Spectre of Good Horror

So I picked up Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth in the Steam Christmas sale and despite some minor problems was able to power through it quite quickly within a week or so; what I played left me intrigued enough to want to jot do...

Of Inventories and Horror Games

Could you carry this for me? It's only small, it shouldn't take up much room; wait, have you checked you have the space? Do you need it for something else? Nowhere does inventory space become more of a worry than in a good Survival Horr...

Dead Space 3, in a nut shell.

So I finished Dead Space 3 the other day and was going to write a blog detailing why it made me want to claw my eyes out, but I found the subject almost as boring as the game, fortunately (or not) for you I decided instead to make a terribl...

Crafting A Good Game of 'The Thing'

So only a few days ago I happened to stumble across a video of 'The Thing', the game, on YouTube, and it brought back a lot of memories. Released around 2002, prior to getting my hands on it it had been a game I was very excited for I'm a...

Alien(s), Creative license and Borrowed Ideas

Maybe it's because Stasis Interrupted's been released and I've been watching a few gameplay videos of it but for some reason lately I've been (again) thinking a lot about Aliens games and where they've gone wrong over the years. Colonial M...

A Magical Dolphin Plays... The King of the Wood

So lately I've been thinking I want to do more casual, regular pieces on some of the games I play, I'm hoping 'A Magical Dolphin Plays...' will scratch that itch as I talk a little about my experiences with some of the indie PC games I come...

Get Yo Summer Game On

So Summer is here, at least in the UK, and frankly I have lost all willpower to sit inside ever again until it's cold and dark and generally miserable again (so at least a week from now given how the weather works here!); What follows then ...

Retrospective: Resident Evil Remake

If you're a Survival Horror fan, or indeed a gamer in general, the Resident Evil series will no doubt be familiar to you; it started off by defining an entire genre and grew into a franchise. In recent years though, at least to some fans, i...

Scope and Depth in the world of gaming

When it comes to games we're often led to believe that more is always better making an FPS? Well if you want people to really enjoy it you'd better have five locales to visit instead of four, or thirty levels to play instead of twenty; bu...

Story Books and Nightmares in Rule of Rose

When it comes to all the possible ways that people can express themselves creatively, and hope to succeed to a degree to be able to commercially benefit from that creativity, games probably aren't really on the easy side of the spectrum ...

Boss Battles - When do they ever make sense?

Bosses. Can't live with 'em, can't have closure with genuinely satisfying gameplay segments without them. ...well, atleast that's what we generally tend to believe. And who could blame us for thinking it, bosses have been an integral par...

B-Movie Bliss: Extermination

So I picked up a copy of Extermination a week or so ago, and was able to play through the game pretty quickly (in about four or fives hours), and that made me think about and then eventually do a pretty long write-up about Survival Horror e...

Survival Horror Essentials

So last week I happened to pick up a copy of Extermination, an old PS2 title from the early days of the console, a survival horror game. This year I've been a lot more interested in trying to look into old games from consoles that I never r...

Lazyblog: Box Art

What's the first game you remember playing? That you remember really vividly? Do you remember the box art for it? I played a lot of games as a kid, and I mean A LOT, pretty much all demos really because we didn't have any money. Some st...

Retrospective: Aliens Vs Predator 2

It's always been felt that games need a strong sense of identity to sell, especially mainstream ones, modern games tend to create that sense of identity themselves by creating characters and worlds that developers know will capture the inte...

Realism Vs. Fantasy - Who Wins?

What's the measure of value that we aspire to when it comes to a game's setting, backdrop or visual style? Do we think a game that is more grounded in reality makes for a 'better' game, if so, why? Admittedly when I write 'better' I'm usi...

About Panzadolphin56one of us since 9:54 AM on 05.06.2011

Oh hey!

I'm former male model and celebrity nutritionist Panzadolphin56. This is my blog. I write things here.

...in case the blog bit didn't give that away.

Anyway! To the left you'll find my latest blogs, and beneath this you'll find a fairly comprehensive list of most of what I've written over the years (unfortunately some stuff does eventually get bumped off the list.)

I like to write from a fairly critical standpoint about games, usually analysis or talking about issues that interest me, I also do retrospectives from time to time, talk about games I've been playing, write the funny things that come into my head, and very occasionally do some crappy art.

I hope you enjoy what you read!

I also do Lets Plays (mostly old horror games) so if that's your thing then click here:

Everyone who clicks will not win a million dollars!

A little about me:

I am mostly a story person, good mechanics are good mechanics but button pressing never does anything for me. I like Horror, I like Cyberpunk, I like Neo-Noir (especially crossed with Cyberpunk), I like good art and good writing, I like games that cut against the grain or choose to challenge social or industry norms in some way.

I don't have a single favourite game but I am a big fan of the MGS games, Snatcher, the Forbidden Siren series, Silent Hill 2, the old-school Resident Evils, Advance Wars and Power Dolls, among many, many others.
