Where'd the Good Guys Go?

If you haven't noticed lately, the definitive good guy is seemingly being slowly shifted out of the gaming pop culture as we know it. Gone are the days of Link, Mario and the heroes we knew were definitely good, the white knights that would...

Blizzard Plays Trump Card(s)

Alright Blizzard, we gotta have a little chat. I was doing okay until you started this whole, "let's take LAN out of Starcraft 2" because ultimately, as long as I got a finished product in hand, I was going to be pretty okay with it. Then, ...

Getting Wii Fit - Update 01

So, I have this problem, you see. I usually choose the worst weeks possible to start things. It seems that on the occasion when I do make a resolution of some kind, the stars, moon, sun and planets all align and like the quacking of a duck ...

Demo Impression - Shadow Complex

I was going to originally write today about the decline of music games in the industry and among the gaming community, but instead I have decided to gush further over the joy that is Shadow Complex. Besides, discussing music games would hav...

First Impression - Culdcept Saga

So I bought a game about a year ago, and it has been sitting on my shelf all this time, while I thought I wouldn't have a great time with it, yet I would still give it a shot. Holy crap, Culdcept Saga is amazing. Granted, I'm aware the game...

Gaming Community Financing Future Titles?

I regard Gabe Newell with a sense of awe because when it comes to game designers, he ranks up there with some of the best in my humble opinion. However, he recently postulated on the future of the game industry as well as theorized on the p...

Piracy - Wenches, Rum and Games

Piracy has always been apparent in many societies, however digital piracy has always been a rather sensitive issue, which is what garners it the most attention for both good and bad. Being the first to admit it, I believe that if something ...

First thoughts - Operation Anchorage

Fallout 3. I'm relatively sure I haven't shut up about Fallout 3 and when it stops giving me an engrossing experience, I'll stop. After pointing out several observations previously, I found myself getting closer to the end of the main quest...

Getting Wii Fit

Wii Fit has been out for a while and I've been pondering as to how viable it actually is as a fitness utility. I'm aware that it exists for fun as well as healthy activity, however, I wonder if it is possible for someone who is a bit heavie...

Borderlands releases October 20

This year it seems Gearbox sees fit to give me quite the pleasant birthday gift. Borderlands is being released on October 20 and if you ask me that seems like something to peak my interest. Now, I haven't been exceptionally happy about a lo...

Batman: Arkham Asylum Demo Impressions

The days of the campy Adam West Batman series are long dead and I admit that sometimes I miss Adam West in the role. However, the precedence now set for Batman by the long standing comic book series, cartoons and now the harrowing success o...

Since Wolfenstein 3D was the first FPS I ever played, thanks to my dad, I'm looking forward to this. Return to Castle Wolfenstein felt a bit woeful, so I have high hopes for this. --Andrew Halt!

Why Indie Games are Important

Some pretty concise ideas as to why we should support indie games and not wait with baited breath for the same crap from certain game companies week in and week out. --Andrew Thou shalt always kill.

What Keeps Me Playing - Fallout 3

Ive now clocked thirty-five hours of exploring the Capital Wasteland, killing mutants and slavers, emptying my inventory countless times. Interestingly enough, I lost interest in Bethesdas fantasy oriented title Elder Scroll: Oblivion aft...

Is the PSP Dead?

I will never forget the day I opened up the crisp cardboard box containing my first PSP. That box didn't just hold some sort of gadget or toy, inside that box at the time lie dormant the very things of which dreams are made. I remember when...

About AndrewG009one of us since 1:33 PM on 07.28.2009

"I kind of miss the days when games were judged on their game-playing merit alone. I'm a little concerned about how far we (the game industry) are into the licensed four-page-ad marketing blitz era these days, which may be a natural evolution of the industry. But I'm always worried when we put more emphasis on glitz and production values than on the game. That's a trend that looks good for a while until you realize there's no game industry any more. If we don't have gameplay, we can't really compete with other forms of entertainment because we can't do graphics as good as the movie industry and we can't make sounds as well as the recording industry. All we can do that's special to us is be interactive. So we have to hang on to that and make sure we do a good job." - Sid Meier
