I'm looking at the 13 games THEA500 added later to the list, including Stunt Car Racer, Super Cars 2, The Sentinel, Paradroid 90. Not bad.

Longplay of the new Sonic the Hedgehog on C64. This would apparently require a RAM expansion, whereas I think Super Mario on C64 was playable on a stock system?

Staying at home sick isn't fun, especially when I get stupid ideas like taking a screenshot of each Wii game I have and call them "WiiWednesdays".

Hm, Contra Rogue Corps was my 2nd most-played Switch game on 2021 (68 hours).

Did something unusual and bought a new (=released this year) game: Mini Motorways. I'm tempted to reinstall Cities in Motion (Cities: Skylines devs' earlier game) and see what similarities and differences there are.

It's moments like this when I can barely remember PS5 has come out but cannot even remember what the new Microsoft console is named that I see how estranged I have become.

In the end, not too bad. I'd guess the fan-assist in the oven helped in getting the surface dark. (I attempted to follow the Cupcake Jemma recipe.)

Note to self: when a video says an easy-looking step is the most difficult one -- don't trust them. (Trying to make puff pastry dough, this time for pasteis de nata, is still something I can't manage.)

Been playing Omega Fighter (UPL, 1989) a lot on Switch. I'm really liking the idea of the whole game being about taking a big enemy ship apart piece by piece instead of in a single stage (like in R-Type).

Games on CD for 8-bit systems back in the day? I didn't know this. Note that I didn't say CD-ROM...

I realized I like Dead Space Extraction over the main series, and Umbrella + Darkside Chronicles over the main series. I wonder what other similar railshooter adaptations there are for me...

I hadn't noticed that in Return of the Obra Dinn, the player's hands are not dithered the way other living beings are. I'd be surprised if there weren't any theories of in-universe explanations for this...

Well, not going to write a retro game blog this month despite my claims.

MSXdev'21 results are in, and my game was 15/34 (57/100 points); higher than I expected. I didn't expect the top-4 to be in that order, though.

Quartet on MSX (Ilkke & bitsofbas, 2018)

No relation to Quintet. Quartet is a puzzle game that has made its rounds on multiple platforms before landing on MSX in 2018, courtesy of Ilkke and bitsofbas. The original concept appears to be from a Flash game Quartet (Photon Storm,...

To celebrate the simple clever ideas that make a massive difference... Super Hexagon doesn't restart the music from the beginning every time you start the game.

I saw MandaloreGaming release a video on No One Lives Under the Lighthouse, bought it and 87 min in, my biggest issue are the enemy encounters.

I haven't had the chance to play it yet, but santiontanon has rarely disappointed me... the gameplay video of Westen House looks pretty amazing for an MSX(1) in my opinion.

The Menace from Triton (Brain Games, 2020)

Konami's Nemesis is arguably one of the most popular game series on MSX. For Santiago Ontañón's The Menace from Triton (2020), that is also a key inspiration. The author has also stated that Steredenn (Pixelnest Studio, 2...

Sir Clive Sinclair has died (aged 81). RIP. Kim Justice's video on him from 5 years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1tWYN4dthw

I envy those in C64 scene.

Time to start Pushing Onwards for 10h and get things done. Back after 10 hours or so.

Any of you familiar with The Forgotten City? I only learned of it thru Super Bunnyhop's video review and I am intrigued. (Present-day person in an ancient Rome city, curse, timeloop, lots of talking, some mystery?)

MSXdev'21 -- ten of my favourites

MSXdev is a long-running game dev compo for the MSX computers. The deadline for entries of the 2021 edition was the end of August 2021, and a record number of entries took part. Coincidentally, the rewards were also higher than ever be...
