Featuring Mega Man X and mostly Salsa music.
Greetings fellow game music lovers,
we're moving in reverse apparently this time. Because today's sample is from the first entry in the Mega Man X series for the SNES in 1993. Unlike the classic series the X series has a habit of providing a second stage select theme as soon as the area of the final enemy (read: Sigma) becomes available. And it starts with a sample that cries "let's get dangerous!":
The beginning of this song has a sample where I repeatedly heard stuff with similar rhythm and structure in Salsa music. Some examples:
Joseito Mateo - "Guaguanco Moderno" (1970 or 73):
Marvin Santiago - "Vasos en Colores" (1978):
Later instances can also be found in Funk:
CHIC - "I Feel Your Love Comin' On" (1982):
Finally, the obligatory sample from a japanese production:
Nadja - "Paradise Catcher ~サンスブラッシュの悪夢~" (1989):
Next week maybe one more Mega Man X sample before the next Final Fantasy series starts.
Phil out.
