Phils Game/Pop Music Similarities #236 - Dead Pet Rabbits
Featuring Doom and Mambo.
Greetings fellow game music lovers,
the summer and the heat rob me the energy to write an exhaustive article, so I'll make it short: Today's entry is about Doom (1993). Originally for PC it is one of the defining games of the 3D shooter genre. It is well documented, that the game may have been heavily inspired by early 90s heavy metal music. However, one music I'm missing on that list is the most heartwarming piece of them all: The end game music when it is revealed what happened to your pet rabbit while you were walking the pits of hell (oh, and the world in case you might care):
El Baile del Pinguino ("The Dance of the Penguin") is a well-known old Mambo song composed by Ernesto Duarte Brito in 1954 and recorded by multiple artists including the famous Tito Puente. This song features a sequence that has a partial similarity with the Doom bunny theme:
