Phils Game/Pop Music Similarities #222 - Islander 2 - The Quickening

   0

Featuring Mega Man 2 and Calypso.

caribbean series is in full swing and after Mario we now have a look at another great game series of the 80s: Mega Man.

I already mentioned possible influences on the Cut Man theme from Mega Man 1 in two recent tweets of mine:

Consequently, it feels appropriate to continue with the second part from 1988 now. And when it comes to caribbean sounding music, there is one song in particular that catches your ear: Quick Man's stage theme:

There is a solid numbero of Calypso songs that was released around the time the game was popular with a very similar rhythm and feeling. Let's go!

Merchant - Maebo (1980):

Baron - "Raja Rani" (1986):

But of course, this is not the end, there are other japanese composers with an affinity to caribbean music. Next week, same slot!

Phil out.

Update 21/05/2022: Mai-chan identified the Quick Man song as Merengue.
