Phils Game/Pop Music Similarities #214 - Spirit of the Pop

Featuring Secret of Mana and japanese 80s pop.

Greetings fellow game music lovers,

as promised another entry for Secret of Mana for Secret of Mana from 1993. This time it's for "Spirit of the Night", the music that plays during some of the more tragic moments of the game:

The way the notes descend at the beginning descend is suprisingly common in 80s japanese pop. Some examples:

Vermillion Sands - In Your Mind (1987):

Shoko Suzuki - "Kanashii Aozora" (1988) (note: Listen closely for the guitar backing in the background):

In theory I have some more Mana stuff but that needs a little bit more time to ripen.
