Nearly Three decades have passed and the closest we ever got to having something like Zombies Ate My Neighbors was Death Road to Canada.
Evening of the Undead: Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed my time with Death Road to Canada but Zombies Ate My Neighbors was a lot more fun in my opinion. The looting felt better and the lack of total randomness actually made the overall experience more enjoyable for me. It isn’t perfect but it’s a damn fine zombie game that ends up being more of a love letter to Horror in general. The music is also really good matching well with the themes of each level. This one in particular took me quite some time to fully understand. There is this nearly incomprehensible gibberish that plays periodically through the song. I thought it might be from an enemy, a cry or call added to the song to give it something different. I was only partially correct on my guess. The sound was indeed part of the song but it wasn’t an enemy. That clip is actually someone saying “Is there anyone outside”. Listen to it again if you didn’t catch this before and you’ll hear it much clearer this time around. The Neighbors are asking if anyone is outside and that can have 2 meanings. One is that the neighbors are looking for other survivors or they’re asking because they’re afraid of what they’ll find skulking outside their homes (not that it matters when chainsaw maniacs can cut through the walls). Either way this small bit is a very nice touch to an amazing track. It adds a bit more context and personality to the game.
