Custom Robo Battle Revolution (GCN): Mysterious Medicine
My introduction to the series was in middle school at a friend’s house but I wouldn’t actually play through the game until High School. This series is criminally underrated and underutilized. They only made 5 entries in the series with three of them being pre GCN titles (N64 and GBA). Battle Revolution and the DS installment Battle Arena were the only games to make it out west.
As far as introductions go Battle Revolution is a great place to start, not that I or anyone else out west had much of a choice but that doesn’t matter when a game is this good. The gameplay is great, the customization is awesome, the arenas are fun, and the story along with the music are well made. This track in particular fits really well in the context of the game. The short of it is that humanity has been living in a dome for generations because the majority of the world has been destroyed by a spirit entity who has ultimately been trapped inside of a Robo. Everyone except a select few people believe that the dome is the entirety of the world and being a video game you could suspend your disbelief enough to believe that as well. This revelation of a desolate world and the cause of it is accompanied by this eerie track.
For a time, it’s just you staring out into the abyss that was presumably Earth at one point. Knowing that the cause is out there, building up its strength as it did all those years ago. You also have to contend with a Syndicate that is hell bent on using this Robo to conquer the world and they operate in this wasteland. It is a lot to take in and a memorable moment in the game.
