Sometimes games can be scary for very poor reasons. Having a jump scare fiesta is one way in which a game can be frightening (at first) while still being a terrible game. Other times a game is simply so awful that it scares you. Metal Gear Survive is the latter of the 2.
The World Beyond the Wormhole - Metal Gear Survive
Let me start by saying that I’m actually not burnt out of survival horror games or zombies. I am still looking for that one game that will manage to tick all my boxes. So when they announced Metal Gear Survive a small part of me felt some excitement. I was still rather sour to the idea of Konami in general for a plethora of reasons. Still the idea of “zombies” in metal gear is an interesting one on its own. The zombies in survive look terrible in my opinion, but there was potential. Sadly all of that was squandered with a subpar story, overall poor mechanics, and bad gameplay.
This is such a shame because the music actually isn’t too bad. The theme of Dite or the world beyond is suitably creepy and conveys that wasteland theme rather well. A dying song for a world that struggles to live on, a song for the dead.
This is actually rather apt considering that the heart that made Metal Gear a thing has mostly moved onto other work, leaving the series an empty husk that is forced to walk on by the will of Konami. A truly frightening fate for such a beloved series. Rather than squandering your time with such a subpar game it is probably best to play Phantom Pain [Steam: Q8LL7-CAE9A-HDAY6]. As I’ve noted in prior years there are plenty of spooks to be had within the game. A far better alternative to wasting your time in Survive.
