Woah boy, I was on fire last month, huh? Finished 5 games! It got me really excited and full of hope for the month of July.
Except that I only managed to beat one game. You see, now that I decided to only use my 3DS almost exclusively while commuting I was hoping to be able to focus more on PC games. Turned out that a few days after I finished playing Super Meat Boy on PC I decided to start developing my fan game, so developing it (and also procrastinating a lot) has been taking most of my PC time. So I'm expecting this and next month to be quite slow at the “beat the backlog games” thing, as I plan to finish my fan game/level until September 23th.
Ok, back to what really matters:
Super Meat Boy
Super Meat Boy is an extremely polished and well made 2d platformer, and this is a well known fact by most indie game fans. But... uh... you know when you play a game and you are able to recognise that it is great but it doesn't seem to click with you? Well, that was exactly what happened here. Now I remember why I had stopped playing it halfway.
My old abandoned save was at the Hell chapter, so once I got used again to the gameplay and controls I thought I would manage to beat it in no time. But turns out that the last two chapters were kind of too hard for me and it took quite a while and a few hundred tries to beat them. The only reason I didn’t gave up (and archived this on the backlog forever) was because I knew the end of the game was nigh (haha).
My only real complaint about SMB is that the last two chapters had waaaaaaaaaaay too long levels. I think the instant respawn mechanic of this game works better on shorter levels, so having to retry long levels without checkpoints again and again and again and again was a really frustrating experience.
Earthbound
I’ve been playing this daily on small bursts, and so far so good! The pacing is kind of slow sometimes (especially at the beginning), but dammit this game has so much charm and it has a really interesting (and weird as heck) tone. And I also got to beat a bunch of religiously intolerant fanactic people that looked suspiciously close to KKK members, wich is always a good thing in my book!
I’m currently at Scaraba, so I hope I can end it until the end of this month.

Final thoughts:
So I think that’s it for last month. Now I’ll try to focus on beating those games you guys actually voted for, because there is no sense in asking the community to vote if I only keep playing whatever pops in my head, right? Anyway, see you guys next month!
