Indie games. I love them. Can't say exactly why, but I do. Perhaps because people created something with their own hands, maybe because they follow their passion? I don't know. But often people forget how much work and time developers spend on their games. Now sure there are games you can see that there isn't a lot time and love in the game but those are exceptions.
So here are 3 of my favorite indie games I think are worth checking out :)
To the moon: Made by Freebirdgames.
Trailer:
Okay this game... I mean seriously this game. This game is made in RPGMaker. One of the games that really hit it big. There are some really good games made with RPGmaker. But this game became really succesful.
Synopsis:
Dr. Eva Rosalene and Dr. Neil Watts have rather odd jobs: they give dying people another chance to live. Literally. Using a technology that allows artificial memories to be implanted, the doctors can weave and transform the mind of a patient to help them live the life they wanted to live...
To The Moon follows Dr. Rosalene and Dr. Watts' attempt to fulfill the wishes of a dying elderly man, Johnny. In their attempt to do so, they travel deep through the man's memories, unfolding his curious life story before their eyes. With each step back in time, a new fragment of Johnny's past is revealed. As the two doctors piece together the fragmented events that spanned a lifetime, they seek to find out just why the frail old man chose his dying wish.
Johnny's last wish is, of course, to go to the moon.
Something completely different but fun as well.
Escape the Game
I mean this game looks "simple" but it isn't. Made by Insanity Games
Trailer:
This game made by Insanity games is funny. Think of breaking the fourth wall Deadpool-ish style. The developer have a sense of humor and is one of the big pluspoints for me.
Synopsis:
Kevin is fed up with his game. Can you help him escape? Yep that's it :)
Darkest Dungeon
Okay there are many people complaining about this game and giving negative reviews. Why you migh think? Because they can't beat a game? Because it is too hard? So I have played this myself as well. And guess what? It is a really hard game. So yeah, but why giving the devs negative reviews? I mean c'mon.
Trailer:
This game is hard but also very enjoyable. You do have perma deaths in this game which adds to it charms. Your heroes can die and they stay dead. But they can also stress out and making them go insane or scared. To relief them of the stress you can send them to bars or even hookers.
Synopsis:
Darkest Dungeon is a challenging gothic RPG about the stresses of dungeon crawling. You will lead a band of heroes on a perilous side-scrolling descent, dealing with a prodigious number of threats to their bodily health, and worse, a relentless assault on their mental fortitude! Five hundred feet below the earth you will not only fight unimaginable foes, but famine, disease, and the stress of the ever-encroaching dark. Darkest Dungeon focuses on the humanity and psychological vulnerability of the heroes and asks: What emotional toll does a life of adventure take?
Darkest Dungeon is not a game where every hero wins the day with shiny armor and a smile. It is a game about hard trade-offs, nearly certain demise, and heroic acts.
I have more indie games I think are worth checking out. Are you a fan of indie games? Or not? Which one is your favorite?
