LONG BLOG

Music Blog : News + Piano Journals

   0

Hello, friends.

I just wanted to write a blog update on some things. I put prices on almost all of my Bandcamp albums, except Songs for Gamers, which I want to keep free, since it's a gift to the community. I did it for 2 reasons. First, I figure anyone that wanted to download my music for free has already done so (been almost 0 activity in the past few months). Second, I should probably start "valuing" my music. It can be listened to freely on the Bandcamp website, but if people want to buy it, they can.

This goes against my original philosophy of always offering free music (I'll probably switch it back to free at some point in the future), but since I haven't had any real activity in the last few months, I figure my music is dead. Even new albums like ADBC and Nonsensicals V were only downloaded 2-3 times each. If this is an issue, please let me know. If you want the music for free, I can hook you up. This is mainly for people I don't know visiting my Bandcamp.

I picked up Omnisphere 2, but now my main PC monitor is dying (restarts every few minutes). I'm using a dinky 1024x768 13", which I cannot write music on because I can't see important parts of the music program in such a small window. I now need to look into a new monitor that does at least 1920x1080, but I'm not going to ask the community for help. I feel like a leech, that whenever something happens that I can't do anything about, I have to beg the community for help. There are also more important people out there that may need the money.

I wrote 2 new songs before the monitor shit the bed:

The Last Step

Return of the Bully

I wanted to talk a little bit about Piano Journals. I'm pretty sure I mentioned them at some point, but I don't think many people know what they are. Basically, I open my piano virtual instrument, hit record, and play whatever I feel like. Usually, music comes out. Sometimes, I make mistakes, or hit wrong notes that cause dissonance (I think that's the word). These piano journals are about as close as you can get to "me". I play my feelings quite often.

I've been doing it since at least 2006, but I'm sure I started way before that. I only started recording them in 2006. I've done over 400 piano journals, totaling an ungodly amount of time (probably close to 40 hours at this point). It's interesting to hear the kind of music I played back in 2009 compared to what I play now.

Here's the most recent piano journal :

It's around 8 minutes. I kept it short. Usually I play for 10-20 minutes. I've also been known to perform in the 30-60 minute range very rarely. A lot of what I play aren't actually songs (yet). I call them seeds. I grow them through piano journals, and then grow them even more when I turn them into actual songs. This is one way I write music. The other way I write music, is by listening to the music in my head, and trying to write it down via piano roll in the software I use. That's how most of my albums and such were written.

My Youtube has tons of piano journals. If you like what you hear, you may want to explore other journals. I can't promise they're any good, but I try my best.

As always, thank you for reading. You probably won't hear from me in a while. It's going to take a while to get the money together for the monitor. I live on Disability, and I barely have enough money to make ends meet. But that's just how it is. I wish I could say I make a living off my music, but I can't seem to get my foot in the door. I'd love to share my music with the world, but the world ain't listening.

Take care.
