PS Friday Night Fights: Daken Can Suck My Short And Curlies Edition
I should be asleep. This blog should have been written and posted already. But stupid fucking Snowmageddon pulled ahead of me by a couple hundred points right at the end of this event in Marvel Puzzle Quest that knocked me out of the top 150 and ruined my goddamn chances at getting that Psylocke card with the blue special ability that I really wanted. So I was desperately playing low level missions trying to make up because I ran out of my allotment of heals and I just. Couldn't. Get there. Instead I get an ultra common two star Hawkeye and some Iso-8 as a consolation prize. I am doing a jerk off motion at my computer screen right now.
Maybe I should back up.
Marvel Puzzle Quest is a free-to-play browser/iOS/Android Match 3 game by the makers of the original Puzzle Quest games. It's literally just Puzzle Quest with a Marvel skin. Which is good. It's the rare Match 3 that requires actual strategy to beat. You need to use your team to their best advantage and be aware of enemy abilities as well and try to block them from getting the matches they need to activate them. It's become a phone addiction the same way Binding Of Issac: Rebirth and OlliOlli 2 were for my Vita.
Alas, I seem to have hit the ceiling. I'm not adverse to paying for stuff in free-to-play games if I enjoy the product. When I was laid off, I played almost nothing but Warframe and felt no compunction about giving them some bucks for their efforts. Same here. I'll buy some extra spots for my roster and maybe some characters. However, because it's a random draw, usually you end up with crap one star or two star characters you either don't want or already have. Those cool characters? Star Lord, Devil Dinosaur, Blade, Elektra... you have literally a .3% chance of drawing them. So those high level missions with the big payout where you're fighting level 120 characters? Yeah, forget them. You may get one really sweet card every once in a while but you'll never see another one unless you're willing to compete with the OCD pay-to-win types with tons of disposable income and time. The prices are prohibitively expensive for a working stiff. Also, they're still regurgitating the Dark Reign event, which happened way back in '08/'09, so I hope you get used to fighting Daken, Bullseye and Moonstone. A LOT. Like CONSTANTLY.
All the same, it's a perfect bus ride game. I have a two hour morning commute by bus so I can burn through my allotted number of lives on the way to work and then again on the way home when everything's recharged. I have a pretty respectable stable... but that's mostly because I'm pouring all my Iso-8 (the easily obtained in-game currency) into maxing out a few characters. There are constantly multiple events going on with ultra-rare character prizes for people who place in the top 150. The game sorts everyone into groups of 1000, so chances are if you play regularly, you'll end up in the 200's without much effort. It's just that I've hit the ceiling where I'd have to really sink some dough into the game to get any further.
I have a few games on pre-order for my Vita but until then, I'm just gonna indulge my addiction. Who knows, maybe in a few months I'll have that souped up Squirrel Girl I've been dying for...

Welcome to the Playstation side of Friday Night Fights! Every Friday, members of the community get together online to play games and all you need to join is a user account. Down below, you'll find a list of games that we'll play tonight along with the times they'll start, the people that you should hit up for invites, and any other information that you may need.
If you want to play, leave a comment with the games from the schedule you want to play and your PSN name. You should also send a PSN friend request to the host and mention your username here in the message so they know you're one of the cool people and not just some random friend request.
If your favorite game isn't on the schedule, host it yourself! You just need to give us the game, start time, and your PSN name so people know what, when and who. It's also wise to list DLC requirements, game or server names, and anything else people might need to join just so you don't need to message it to everyone individually. Last minute additions in the comments here are fine, but games can also be added earlier in the week by visiting the forums and finding the thread with the coming Friday's date. Adding a game there ensures it's on the blog from the moment it goes up.

Friday Night Fights is a weekly event where we, community members, cooperate with or murder each other online. There is a forum thread for planning and then a blog post here with the final schedule. Keep an eye out for both them if you want to play some games.

The Guide
To Play
� Keep yourself up to date on the schedule. The list in the forums can change several times throughout the week.
� Leave a message with your PSN name and which games from the schedule you want to play. More people will play if other people are playing, so speak up.
� Send a PSN friend request to the person hosting the game which includes a message with your Dtoid name. If you leave out who you are on the site, they might think you're just a random friend request and ignore you.
To Host
� If you want your game listed on the schedule, we need the game, the time, and your PSN ID. We need the specific game, not an abbreviation that applies to more than one; a start time, even if you're playing "all night"; and we need your PSN ID even if you think we know it already.
� Don't worry about hosting the same game or hosting a game at the same time as someone else. Instead, think of it like a movie theater; more than one game can run at the same time.
� Make sure you have at least an hour to play. That's only two or three matches of the average shooter and those go by pretty quick.
� Check the comments, on both the forum post and the cblog when it goes up on Friday, to see if someone has said they'll play. You might have missed their PSN message or your friend list might be full.
