I picked up Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- (Guilty Gear titles are still Guilty Gear titles, btw) and there are some good and bad points to it. I know, what a thought, a game not being perfect. It looks amazing. There are times you don't know it isn't HD sprites, and there are times you wish it was still the 2D just because Arc's art was so good. The online lobbies are more than we're ever going to need for FNF, and about as easy to figure out as doing your own taxes for the first time, but the system is certainly robust and I can appreciate it for people who want that sort of thing. The character selection is a bit limited, with certain omissions that I don't quite understand. There's no Johnny, no Dizzy, no Anji, no Bridget, no Jam, Testament, Baiken, or Kliff. The models even show up in story mode for some of them. There is such a big pile of Guilty Gear characters to choose from and I feel like they could really have worked in a few more. However, I think a more limited set of characters can lead to a better game because there is more room for each character to cover without feeling as though they overlap. You don't need five different zoning characters to only have one of them be really good. Just have the one that's good and fuse in some of the ideas that would have been other characters. I'm willing to trade number of characters for making those characters more unique, and I think Xrd does that.
A new trailer for Evolve showed up on my Youtube feed, titled Ready or Not. I know what they meant, but it also very conveniently covered how I expect the game to be released. Get it? Ready or not. Aren't I clever? Really though, my faith in new online games, especially games relying on the easily screwed up asymmetrical multiplayer is effectively nonexistent. And then they've got all that day-one DLC... What I've seen so far is a game with little retail content, a mountain of DLC, and more DLC to come. You can apparently get a fifth monster if you spend a hundred dollars on the game, but only on PC and not right now. It will be out some vague time after launch, but you can pay for it right now. That sounds so great that I'm skipping Evolve. I don't think I'd even play it for free, since I'd still have to spend more on DLC than I would on a brand new retail game to get the rest of the content. Trev
Welcome to the Playstation side of Friday Night Fights! Every Friday, members of the community get together online to play games and all you need to join is a user account. Down below, you'll find a list of games that we'll play tonight along with the times they'll start, the people that you should hit up for invites, and any other information that you may need.
If you want to play, leave a comment with the games from the schedule you want to play and your PSN name. You should also send a PSN friend request to the host and mention your username here in the message so they know you're one of the cool people and not just some random friend request.
If your favorite game isn't on the schedule, host it yourself! You just need to give us the game, start time, and your PSN name so people know what, when and who. It's also wise to list DLC requirements, game or server names, and anything else people might need to join just so you don't need to message it to everyone individually. Last minute additions in the comments here are fine, but games can also be added earlier in the week by visiting the forums and finding the thread with the coming Friday's date. Adding a game there ensures it's on the blog from the moment it goes up.
