Of Game Sites, Ad Blocks, And Revenue.

Hello everyone, I very much doubt the current batch of Dtoid users remember me at all but I used to frequent the Media Molecule (Tomopop, Japanator, and Destructoid) quite frequently. As a matter of fact Destructoid used to be my main source of gaming news and the people writing it my favorite bunch of people to get my news from. Some of those writers still remain here to such as the lovely Hamza and Jim among a group of people I either don't know or think I don't know (due to them using their real names to write for the site as opposed to the name I used to know them by).

The place I now frequent for anything gaming related is Giant Bomb, stopping by Destructoid every so often and RoosterTeeth due to them not being game critics. If I am being quite honest, any other gaming site (not publication, not news outlet, not anything specific, yet all of those things) quite frankly disgusts me. Neogaf and Kotakabsoluteshit being the major offenders in horrible sites that I feel shouldn't exist.

But what sites I hate isn't nearly as important to me as the sites I love, or used to love.

Destructoid is a site I used to love and would love to love again. It's a site that has people that I may love and I don't even know it yet. But therein lies the problem.

Long ago I made a big switch from reading the internet to watching it. I feel like a lot of other people did too. I could be wrong and maybe I'm even in the minority on this. I can't say for sure. But a lot of the internet now is video, and I would love to watch Destructoid as a video site (not that news program thing they did and maybe still do, that was kind of... well I didn't like it all that much if I'm being honest).

But my point is, there is not easy to way to watch video on Destructoid. You have a tab that does lead to a rather messy culmination of all the video content, but nothings promoted, it's not telling me what I should be watching, it's not trying to get me interested in any of the video content, so I wouldn't even know where to begin, and the shows I already know I like, such as Jimquisition, isn't even mainly on Destructoid, it's on the escapist. I don't want to give any money to the fucking escapist to watch Jimquisition in high quality, if it asked me to give that money to Destructoid I would, but not the fucking Escapist.

So there is my answer. As a very long time reader of Destructoid, who (just for full clarification) does use Ad-block. I would throw money at all of your lovely faces if video was made the prominent point of the site, if features like the Giant Bomb quick looks were implemented and I could watch, for example, Hamza talk to Jim while he explains a game, if all of that stuff was promoted well and Destructoid didn't make it's video content lead to other, worse sites (Like fucking Machinma and the eScapist).

I love Destructoid. I never want to see it go away. At the same rate, I want to see it evolve with the internet. I want to see it move away from text and towards video. I want to see proper promotion of that stuff.

And for full full clarifiacation. I know that redesigning the site in that way is asking a lot. But I wasn't asked to be reasonable, I was asked to tell you what would make me want to give you money. So there it is :)
