PlayBoyMan's Humor: "My La-Mulana Nightmares..."

   0
In January 2006, I had the good fortune of playing an MSX Port of a game called La-Mulana. It was just amazing. You know how when you play a game for the very first time, those little hairs on your head stand up? You eyes widen, your fingers get all tingly, hell, your tongue might start wiggling out of your mouth.

Yes it happens. If you play a really good game, or it get real intense, your tongue might start wiggling out of your mouth - don't deny it.

Anyway, when I played this game for the first time, I was 1000% enchanted. Just hearing the music was fantastic. If you want to listen to the opening music, just Click Here. Don't worry, I'll wait.

And your back....Good Music, isn't it? Really grabs your attention. Makes you want to play the game huh?
Yeah, I don't blame you, it's really good as hell.

I played the MSX Version for days at a time. 1-3 hours a day. I died so much and I kept coming back for more.

In 2009, I heard that La-Mulana was moving up to the big leagues - The Wii....in Japan.

It was very popular in Japan, and the talk of the game coming to PC was just BUZZING around the internet.

And after a bit, the remake of this wonderful gem made it to the PC in the US for under 15 bucks.

Woot Woot!!!! -- or so I thought.

Something was stopping me from buying the game - As soon as it came out, people familiar with the game bought it and played it. Hell, Destructoid even did a review of it, and they loved it.

I have the money. 15 bucks ready to go, waiting to be spent on this kick ass game I've come to love. DRM-Free and ready to rock....and yet, I can't bring my self to buy it.

Why?!

Is it because I don't have the time to play it? Is it because I might be disappointed? No....It's because I my nightmares might worsen.

Yeah, that's right - the MSX Version of this game gave me nightmares. I was the Professor, and I was just having every monster coming at me.

Ellmac was chasing me, shooting fireballs up my ass. That Tablet that warns me not to read it again - I'm forced to read it again and again and again - That floating bastard Horus hovering over me, as he drains my life force.

An the worst part: I was in the inferno cavern, and I was repeatedly thrown into that huge pit of lava.
I woke up several nights, almost screaming, and saying out loud "Oh...its sweat" to an empty room.

I had to stop playing that game for weeks to end the nightmares, and now, after all this time, I'm stuck with jumping right into the remake of this crazy gem.

The question now is if I'll click that buy button and go right back into that big ball of crazy again.

Only Time will tell....oh, wait.... I just finished downloading the game. I must've clicked that button a few moments ago.

Well...that was easy. Bring on the nightmares, La-Mulana!
