I feel kinda bad doing a half-assed blog. Like I'm writing just to waste time, but the problem is, is that since my last proper article (4th April), nothing really prevalent has sprung to mind. I've had some ideas, but they have never had enough depth or real meaning to me to stop me from throwing my arms up in frustration and hammering down the Backspace key.
So i thought I would clear my head of all these ideas by providing you with these half-assed ideas that I have and hopefully being able to clear my head will allow something of substance to appear, either that or I'll just watch more DragonBall.
Onto next point. Many of you know of Metro 2033, the sleeper hit released in 2000 and blah blah other boring statistics. What fewer of you may know was that it was co-written with the book's author, Dmitry Glukhovsky. What fewer of you may know, is that Glukhovsky released his book, Metro 2033 on his page for free originally.
By doing this he attracted over a million people to his website and he plus his fans, created an entire universe of stories about the Metro Universe, ranging from London to South America (if my memory serves me correctly). He and his fans created an entire universe, and all for free. It's all still there, but unfortunately remains only in Russian, and therefore cannot be read by me.
You have here an entire universe of stories, and with THQ already establishing the Metro Universe with
2033 and
Last Light, could you imagine, with a little work, that these community based stories could actually be made into games? HOW AMAZING WOULD THAT BE!
But like that would ever happen, especially with THQ's current situation, oh well, a man can dream can't he? CAN'T HE?
One more half thought, and I'm done.
I love this community, and I make it constant point of mine to keep saying it, because, I feel there just isn't enough praise and happy thoughts going round these days. It's all criticism and harsh words exchanged from behind furiously tapping keyboards (usually with furiously fapping hands in tow XD)
did you like my crude double entendre? because you know...faps for likes and faps for...oh never mind.
Everyone seems to be gripped by this pessissmism and apathy at everything. Games are merging under the umbrella of "Gritty 1st/3rd Person Shooters" and "kiddie games" seem to be getting shut out. People are raging at others for having opinions, and shit just ain't looking great. So even though I'll probably never meet any of you, it's nice to have the constants of Dtoid and a welcoming community.
I was very joyful indeed when my "strong request" of getting the Brain Candy Dev Blog promoted, was actually granted thanks to the higher powers (namely Elsa and Patrick Hancock). I felt that it was nice to see that people took notice of the community, especially the people who can post on the front page. It makes me feel fuzzy inside when I see the actual staff commenting on posts or on Com. Blogs, as it shows geniuine interest in article, not merely just pandering.
I just hope that the front page doesn't become increasingly dissociated with the community. Dtoid is just as much a news blog as it is a community hub. I think that would be the day I would have to say goodbye to Dtoid.
Let's just hope that day never comes...
