I'm probably alone in this, or at least part of a small minority. But I'm more or less satisfied with my 3DS and I struggle to understand all the anger.
I own all three main consoles and a decent gaming PC. My Wii has recently been modded and I'm not entirely opposed to piracy. My point is I have lots of different ways to play pretty much any great new game that comes out. I've currently got a backlog of perhaps 10 games that I really want to finish playing, even more if you consider all the Steam games I've purchased on impulse just because they were on sale. This doesn't include games that have yet to be released. What I'm getting at is, I have no shortage of games to play.
The idea of one of my systems, a handheld no less, being almost totally dedicated to allowing me to play N64 and PS2 games with shinier graphics
on the go (not to mention DS games like Pokemon Black which I still haven't finished) sounds great to me. I can't wait to get
MGS3D,
Star Fox 64 3D, and
Tales of the Abyss. I already wrote about my love for
Ocarina of Time 3D but I haven't actually gotten around to playing the Master Quest yet -- see above: too many other games. I upgraded from a vanilla DS Lite, which didn't support WPA2 encryption. I know the DSi did, but I didn't even bat an eyelash when it came out because I didn't really care about trading in my DS for a DS with a camera. WPA2 support as well as the new unified friend code system were serious selling points for me (disregarding that the Friend Code concept is still stupid in general) perhaps moreso than the 3D capability.. they were certainly on the same level. For me, personally, $250 seemed like a pretty fair price and I haven't regretted it once, not even with the recent price drop announcement.
It's disappointing that all the good stuff is still months and months away. I won't deny that the 3DS released too soon. However, like I said a minute ago, it's not like I'm in a gaming drought. Most of the shit on the eShop is ridiculous, but it doesn't bother me. It's sad to think that the 3DS will probably go down in the books as a big failure. There are a lot of things I wish Nintendo would get their act together on (namely Operation Rainfall) but the 3DS library is a bit lower on my list. I guess that makes me weird.
