921 hours. That's the figure Steam is claiming.
That's 55,260 minutes, or 3,315,600 seconds, or 38 days, eight hours and some minutes.
At 34.99, Left 4 Dead 2 has worked out at around 3.7p per hour of entertainment (not including phone, internet and electricity bills) which is surely the best deal I've had in my entire gaming life where money has changed hands. I've played on average an hour and a half a day since release. I've made new friends, formed a clan, admin'd a server, and killed probably enough zombies to be considered guilty of genocide.
And now it's time to stop.
See, despite spending most of my time with this one game, I haven't slowed down on my purchasing. I like shopping for games. Whilst digital distribution is all well and good, there is often no comparison to just going down the shops (or if you're looking for something more retro, a car boot sale) and seeing what you find. I sometimes have as much fun looking as I do playing the actual purchase... depending how much money I actually have with me. As an example, I once found a box of PS1 games on sale for 1 at a boot sale. This would seem good value anyway, but when I tell you that the box contained Final Fantasy's VII and VIII (which both go on Ebay for around 25 on average) and the original Metal Gear Solid, which at that point, I was yet to play, you start to understand why I was smiling most of the rest of that day.
But due to the nature of this liking of shopping like a bitch for heels, I've amassed something of a backlog of games to play. Possibly nearing the 100 mark. Basically, anything of note released since November 2009 which was of note, I hadn't finished it... unless it was Mass Effect 2, as I made a special case there.
So I'm stopping playing Left 4 Dead 2, as it has finally got a bit old and stale, despite the looming DLC ahead. I have already had a go at tackling the backlog since January, and have managed to finish some old games, as well as some of the newer ones I just had to play released this year. These first few entries are going to be looking back at what I've done since January, as well as a running commentary on what I've played. Then, I'm going to descend my list of games to complete in reverse Metacritic order, because it was the most interesting way I could think of of tackling it
So anyway, here's what I've done so far this year:
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
Assassin's Creed II
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Battlefied: Bad Company 2
Dead Space 2
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit
Splinter Cell: Conviction
Fallout: New Vegas
Halo 3: ODST
Dead Space: Extraction
Call of Duty: Black Ops
House of the Dead: Overkill
Tom Clancy's: Hawx 2
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
I'm not going to put up the list of stuff to finish, as it's quite a bit longer.
Next entry, I'm going to say what I thought of those I've done so far, because I know you care what I think!
