All of this took place during a long playthrough of the career mode in UFC Undisputed 2009. During all this, I had experienced everything I've come to love and enjoy about the UFC and the sport in general. It showcases how people either sink or swim depending on how they approach their competition. I had to evolve my understanding of the wrestling and jiujitsu, otherwise I was toast against the higher level guys.
I had a fight that ended in a weird and impossible way. This is kinda how the sport works. Even top tier fighters lose with a lucky shot. Rich Clementi landed a hard one and I haven't taken a fight against him again, even though I've become a much better fighter.
Likewise, Mac Danzig proved that I can even get annoyed enough put off fights so I could knock this guy out again. Sure if I hadn't taken this fight I would have advanced my career. Though I just had to show this little snot a lesson. And what happens? He still talks trash after the fight.
In all of this, I've experienced rivalries, fights that I under prepare for, fights that I dominate and fights that I get dominated in. I'm having fun participating in a sport I love to watch. I'm thinking up new strategies and attempting to get better and better in places I have holes.
I'm actually having fun enjoying a sports game. Something I haven't done since NFL Blitz nearly a decade ago. The game has some limitations, but overall I'm pleasantly surprised by my enjoyment. I can't believe I have Mario Party palm from spinning the right thumb stick to get out of submissions.
"We constantly have to revisit 'Why would Donkey Kong do this?' or 'Why would this environment be like this?' And then we start thinking: 'We're making a game about a gorilla wearing a tie.'" -Michael Kelbaugh of Retro Studios on Donkey Kong Country Returns
"I have to say it's kinda scary how much you know about this game."
