Right now, there is probably no other Nintendo franchise as sought after as the
Mother games. Even Destructoid's own
Game Trading Forum has multiple threads of people willing to trade their souls for a copy of
Earthbound.
I understand that Nintendo has
reasons for not releasing EarthBound on the Virtual Console. They have their whole Beatles-music-in-the-game-so-we-aren't-aloud-to-play-it thing, but really, is that REALLY that big of a deal? Can't they just call up the company that owns the songs and ask permission to put out the game anyway? And even if they didn't ask permission, would it be possible that the record company would not even find out about the game? Or maybe they just wouldn't
care.
If you think back to
Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Lucas was a playable character in the game, Porky was a boss, and there was even a level based on
Mother 3. Why would Nintendo put so much emphasis on
Mother 3 in
Brawl if they didn't want to build up awareness about the game? Were they just too lazy to remove all the references from the Japanese version? Or did they leave them in so more people could have
some knowledge of the game if it was ever released here?
Electronic Gaming Monthly mentioned in their rumor section that
Mother 1,
EarthBound, and
Mother 3 could possibly be coming out as a DS release named
Mother Compilation. Imagine being able to buy one 40 or $50 DS cart, and have some of the best RPGs ever released in your DS at all times, it would sell like hotcakes! Nay, penis enlarging chocolate bars.
Heck, they don't even have to do the translation themselves,
it's already done for them! I'm pretty sure that the Starmen guys really wouldn't mind if you used it, Nintendo. Actually, they would probably be more than happy to sell it to you for a very small price.
It's pretty much a given that Nintendo is going to announce downloadable Game Boy and GBA games for the DSi on Tuesdays conference. So when that happens, they put a "Japanese Import" emblem beside it like the one from Virtual Console, charge it an extra couple hundred Nintendo Points, and everyone will be happy.
It really makes no sense to me why Nintendo has gone this long without bringing
Mother 3 to gamers in North America. Personally, I know tones of people -- online AND off -- that would definitely buy a copy if Nintendo released it on DS. I think it's definitely going to be announced on Tuesday.
What do you guys think?
