Holy crap, this version of
Guitar Hero is just as epic as the last few. Except this one has Metallica, which makes it even more epic. I'm just going to start off with the fact that I haven't beaten the game, nor have I messed around with the multiplayer yet. The first scene when you start career is Metallica walking out in slow-mo to "The Ecstasy of Gold." You really can't get much more epic than that. When you play songs by Metallica, you play AS Metallica on screen. The other bands that are on here, you play as whatever character you choose, or create. It has the character creator just like in
Guitar Hero: World Tour. It has a few more extras to be added to your character, but all in all, it's just about the same. The song choices are very good. Here's the list of songs that are on the game (in alphabetical order):
Metallica tracks All Nightmare Long
Battery
Creeping Death
Disposable Heroes
Dyers Eve
Enter Sandman
Fade To Black
Fight Fire With Fire
For Whom The Bell Tolls
Frantic
Fuel
Hit The Lights
King Nothing
Master of Puppets
Mercyful Fate (Medley)
No Leaf Clover
Nothing Else Matters
One
Orion
Sad But True
Seek And Destroy
The Memory Remains
The Shortest Straw
The Thing That Should Not Be
The Unforgiven
Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
Wherever I May Roam
Whiplash
Other tracks Alice In Chains - No Excuses
Bob Seger - Turn The Page
Corrosion of Conformity - Albatross
Diamond Head - Am I Evil?
Foo Fighters - Stacked Actors
Judas Priest - Hell Bent For Leather
Kyuss - Demon Cleaner
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Tuesdays Gone
Machine Head - Beautiful Mourning
Mastodon - Blood And Thunder
Mercyful Fate - Evil
Michael Schenker Group - Armed and Ready
Motorhead - Ace of Spades
Queen - Stone Cold Crazy
Samhain - Mother of Mercy
Slayer - War Ensemble
Social Distortion - Mommy's Little Monster
Suicidal Tendencies - War Inside My Head
System of a Down - Toxicity
The Sword - Black River
Thin Lizzy - The Boys Are Back in Town
When you start off in career, you play a couple songs by Metallica, just to set the mood. On bass mode, I 5 starred them both; on guitar mode, I just squeaked by with 3 stars. These are the first 2 songs on the game and I almost failed on both of them (on guitar). That worried me about the rest of the game. Thank god the songs got a little more reasonable during the next couple tiers, not saying that the songs weren't hard. Metallica solos are always crazy, but they are insanely fun once you can get the hang of them. In order to advance tiers, you need to get so many stars. Quite frankly, I find myself playing only the Metallica songs rather than the other misc. bands. It will say at the bottom, "5 more starts to unlock next venue." I really like the fact that it shows the counter where you can see how many stars you have.
I didn't try the drums or vocals because, well, I don't have them.
My only drawbacks to it is the fact that it's pretty stripped down from
Guitar Hero: World Tour. The menu and loading screens are pretty blah. The gameplay is just like any other
Guitar Hero game, but it's just not as visually appealing.
